Weaving Light & Culture: The Chromatic Renewal of Kashgar’s Historic Streets

In Kashgar, we created a cultural-ecological colour system for this living-heritage Silk Road city. From local architecture, crafts, and landscape, we decoded four cultural colour genes, forming a low-reflectance matte palette for the arid climate. Guided by the colour response curve of sunlight, we designed five historic commercial streets. Colour restores visual coherence while enhancing comfort and commercial vitality. The project offers a model for historic cities in multicultural regions.
