Details
Creation of a multipurpose space for young people in the village of Nuglar-St. Pantaleon. With its delicate wooden frame suspended above the meadow, the sides of the new youth club consists solely of sliding panels. These movable elements allow for countless spatial configurations in a project that was initiated by the young people themselves. Built using recycled and donated materials as well as trees from the nearby forest, it stands on light screw-mounted legs. The pavilion is a living symbol of a collective process of participation and collaborative design.
The Jury‘s Statement
As versatile as a chameleon: the new sliding-door pavilion offers a high degree of flexibility thanks to its semi-transparent sliding panels on the sides. Depending on preference, need, or weather, the panels can be opened and closed at any time, allowing for countless spatial variations. Simply sliding one of the two side walls means that the pavilion, as well as being a social space, can also serve as a theatre stage or host a panel discussion. The design, which appears simple at first glance, and the straightforward timber construction are in fact based on an intelligent plug-in system that reveals its architectural uniqueness in the structural details, yet deliberately takes a back seat for the benefit of the users, leaving the space to the children.
