Details
Building No. 4 on the Yangjia River (Rainbow Lake) reexamines public life and commercial use. Based on the principle of “making the landscape tangible, creating interstitial spaces,” it redefines park architecture as landscape infrastructure, dissolving boundaries between built form, ecology, and public life. A flowing double-curved plate truss follows the sloped waterfront, generating pathways, courtyards, and grey spaces. A permeable public landscape is created, where everyday activities and commercial uses coexist.
The Jury‘s Statement
In many places, urban architecture and parkland are strictly separated, but this project focuses on their fusion. Along the sloping hillside, the building has been integrated into the topography of the riverside landscape through curved lines. Paths and bridges intertwine, roof overhangs and terraces interlock, and indoor and outdoor spaces merge. Meanwhile, the commercial areas blend seamlessly into the parkland, blurring the boundaries between human activity and nature. The result is a social, publicly accessible space for everyone—covered yet open-air, designed to foster communal gathering with a high quality of stay, great freedom of use, and consistently high-quality architectural execution.
