Details

The historic ensemble will be preserved, supplemented by a new courtyard building, and will provide a new venue for the International Music Academy Liechtenstein and its popular masterclasses for talented young musicians. The stable barn, built in the style of a pillar barn, has been adapted into a concert hall for chamber music. The courtyard house takes on foyer and service functions and forms the social centre of the ensemble as a communal lounge.

The Jury‘s Statement

With the conversion project for the Hagenhaus, which belongs to the Music Academy in Liechtenstein, the team at Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architekten in Nendeln, Liechtenstein, has achieved a transformation of high contextual quality. The planners contrasted the historic ensemble, which included a classic residential building, a stable barn and a small wash house, with a simple courtyard house, thus defining a new courtyard centre. In addition to foyer and service functions, the new building serves as a meeting place for students and guests, while the front building offers rehearsal and accommodation rooms. The barn, now used as a modern chamber music hall, has been wonderfully reinterpreted using adjustable wooden slats. A homogeneous façade design forms the visual framework of the project.
