Details
Following the modernisation and extension, space was created for events across all four districts. The regional barn served as the basis, but was reinterpreted (no roof overhangs, flat clay tiles, plenty of glass). The solid structure (existing building) houses the functional areas, while the open-plan (new) building, featuring wooden, triple-hinged frames, seemingly frameless glazing, and threshold-free exits, provides space for events. The point at which they join contains all access points.
The Jury‘s Statement
Architecture that blends into the surrounding rural landscape with such simplicity, clarity, and style is truly worthy of praise. The new community centre is, in every respect, an enormous asset to the residents and undoubtedly offers them something of great significance in return. The building, constructed from locally sourced timber, is recognised as a prime example of sustainable rural development. Rather than erecting a new building, the architects opted to carry out the project within the existing structure, ensuring a harmonious overall appearance with a design that deliberately draws on the typical motif of the Spessart barn, common in the region. All in all, this is a spacious, multifunctional village hub!
