Dwelling on the Mountainside: Jiuceng Art Gallery

The art gallery site occupies the homesteads of four relocated villagers. Regulations required minimal deviation from the original structure’s footprint and height. A continuous curved roof structure – formed by a woven timber arch with variable heights and constrained boundaries – integrates the originally disparate sizes and elevations into a unified whole while creating a single large interior space. Traditional local techniques utilising stone, wood, earth and tile were employed.
