National Cardiovascular Medical Research Sub-center—Phase II Project of the Cardiovascular Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University

The challenge for this national centre for cardiovascular medicine was not to erect another building block, but to integrate the adjacent wetlands of Wuyuan Bay into the project, with the idea being “no walls.” The staggered building volume recedes, allowing space for light, wind, and greenery and ensuring it is first and foremost a park, and only secondarily a hospital.
