Penthouse Frankfurt is a 400-sqm home in Frankfurt’s Westend, created on top of a listed Wilhelminian-era building and extended by two newly added levels. Holzrausch transformed it into a calm, light-filled penthouse in which historic fabric and new intervention read as one unified whole. Warm timber, brushed stainless steel, terrazzo, and integrated lighting create a tactile interior for art, everyday life, and a roof garden above the city.
The Jury‘s Statement
A penthouse is, by its very nature, something special. But when the top floor of a listed Wilhelminian-style building is converted into a penthouse, a delicate touch is required to create something truly new—and that is precisely what has been achieved here. Generous glass facades make the two-storey roof level feel less like a flat and more like a light-flooded, gallery-like spatial landscape with a cosmopolitan air. The formerly heavily partitioned rooms have been replaced by a fluid, open-plan layout that combines architecture, design pieces, and art in an inspiring composition, extending all the way to the sculpturally designed signature staircase. Ultimately, this concept finds its fulfilment in an elegant, precisely coordinated selection of materials that consistently carries the spatial vision forward.
