The design of the holiday house Hof Ahmen explores how a listed farmstead can be carefully extended, and at the same time complemented by an independent, contemporary architectural language. Within the tension between integration and contrast, openness and enclosure, the house emerges as both embedded in its landscape and context yet distinctly autonomous. Nature becomes the protagonist, shaping spatial experience, atmosphere, and the character of the interior.
The Jury‘s Statement
Sitting in the glass house, you always have a beautiful view out to the nature beyond. This has to be the perfect setting for a break in the countryside—pure relaxation! There are few other architectural structures to which the description “bathed in light” applies quite as well as it does to this designer mini-house not far from the Baltic Sea. Set amidst the farm’s sheep pasture, the translucent living space seems to float right above the meadow. The impressively delicate construction of the holiday home is like poetry brought to life through architecture, and the lightness of the exterior continues inside. “As much as possible, as little as necessary” seems to be the motto, with a minimalist, carefully curated selection of materials and products that defines the interior design.
