The Mind Maze at the Shanghai Museum of Glass transforms thinking into a spatial experience. Across 575 sqm, visitors move through a controlled environment of glass, mirrors, red light, and narrow passages shaped by reflections, graphic patterns, and shifting perspectives. The maze is structured around the Eight Wonders of Thinking—installations exploring memory, energy, prediction, reaction, and other cognitive processes through miniature scenes, light, movement, and text.
The Jury‘s Statement
Anyone who has ever been in a traditional maze knows how challenging it can be to find their way out again. In the Mind Maze at the Shanghai Museum of Glass, this experience is taken to the extreme, as visitors find themselves right in the middle of a surreal, multi-sensory design world, which—it’s worth noting—was primarily designed for adults. The impressive immersive design is created by 318 panels of transparent glass, mirrors, and patterned black mirror glass. Accompanied by atmospheric LED lighting and bespoke soundscapes, these really challenge one’s sense of perception. The result is a cinematic atmosphere with seemingly endless spaces—an experience that lingers long afterwards and demonstrates just how powerful spatial design can be.
