Details
This is a two-storey production hall made of rammed earth, built from the excavated soil of the site itself. Self-supporting earth elements combined with brick and concrete rubble from ongoing operations form a hybrid structure with recycled concrete and timber beams. The natural drop in the terrain stacks production and logistics vertically, with the east facade open for daylight and the west facade closed for sound insulation. The cold hall features concrete core activation and passive thermal mass, and thus constitutes circular industrial architecture.

A far cry from the usual precast reinforced-concrete construction, the Lehmraum represents a novelty in the field of German industrial construction. With this project, Mxparchitektur boldly charted a completely different course, relying on high-quality materials and innovative construction methods to achieve a successful blend of sustainability and progressiveness. Furthermore, the two-storey production hall, built using rammed earth construction, impressively demonstrates that even industrial buildings can effortlessly embrace the principles of the circular economy. A production hall made entirely of earth is an unrivalled innovation that should be urgently further explored and developed in the near future.
