Details

Circular workspaces for BLB NRW: On 580 sqm, the circular economy is transformed into spatial aesthetics. Driven by the principle of “design follows availability,” the project is based on a 91% re-use rate. Through constructive design and expert craftsmanship, savings of 13% in costs and 83% in CO₂ emissions were achieved. From the project rooms to the roof terrace, the design demonstrates that functional re-use integrates seamlessly into architecture—representing the new normal in interior design.

The Jury‘s Statement

Circularity is often promised; here, it is demonstrated. This project lays everything out in the open and makes all construction data transparent: namely, measurable key figures broken down thor-oughly and in detail. A scalable methodology as an innovative and efficient tool is still noticeably lacking right now in the interior design sector. Through the consistent, unconditional, and indeed verifiable implementation of the Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C) principle in the interior fit-out of the Düssel-dorf office building, the project’s objective – to completely eliminate the design flaw of “waste” and instead rely exclusively on biodegradable, upcyclable, or reused materials – was successfully achieved. The fact that the result is a space that does not look like a compromise, but rather like a well-thought-out design, makes this project all the more compelling.
