Details

Casele transforms a historic Munich butcher’s shop into an atmospheric Italian space combining bar and restaurant. Defining elements and materials of the existing structure were consciously preserved and further developed, with the private dining room based on a former boardroom of Munich Re. Mahogany joinery, contemporary art, historic oil paintings, and furniture from a Florentine villa add further depth to the interior.

The Jury‘s Statement

In Munich’s Glockenbach district, where a butcher’s shop once stood, there is now a new destination for the finest Italian cuisine. Conceived as a “cucina e bar,” Casele stands out, above all, for its authentic interior design. Traces of the past have not been erased, but rather accentuated and put on display: the old meat counter has been transformed into a wine bar, which serves as a DJ booth in the evenings, while the former cold rooms are now the wine cellar. What was the main cold storage area has also been skilfully imbued with that southern Italian flair—as a private dining area, it is now clad in elegant mahogany. Wooden coffered ceilings, warm glazed tiles, copper, natural stone, and stainless steel combine to create the cosy charm of a Neapolitan bar. With Casele, Holzrausch has delivered a masterpiece—precision craftsmanship and a keen eye for interior design characterise the project down to the very last detail.
