As part of 49h ICC Berlin, around 30,000 visitors had the opportunity to experience the decommissioned and listed architectural icon ICC Berlin on 11–14 September 2025. Once a conference centre and symbol of future optimism, the ICC now stands for transformation itself. For the FORM/FUTURE international conference, it became the place where practitioners from architecture, design, and public administration gathered to explore the role and impact of design in times of change. Over two days there were more than 60 speakers, 450 participants, and a programme amounting to 28 hours.
The Jury‘s Statement
The idea involved a journey from a typical “lost place” to a creative innovation lab—and back again. Without any structural alterations, but with an exceptionally strong concept for its use, the previously dormant ICC Berlin was briefly transformed late last summer into a memorable showcase and hub for design and architecture enthusiasts. Through a well-thought-out yet playful approach, several landmarks were brought back into the collective memory of Berlin’s residents and friends of the capital. Mission accomplished! With just a single event, the ICC effortlessly demonstrated its influence on urban society and, in doing so, set the stage for the next round in the ongoing debates about the future use of the building, which has been disused for years.
