Details
The building envelope of the five-group daycare centre in Ginnheim is being refurbished using a serial approach. To improve energy efficiency and prevent summer overheating, the facade and roof of the two-storey structure are being renewed. The project pioneers serial renovation: planning, including permit, structure, fire safety, building physics, funding, and tendering, is being completed in 2.5 months and implemented with prefabricated timber modules during ongoing operation.
The Jury‘s Statement
Compared to Austria, large-scale facade refurbishment is still in its infancy here. Given this context, the achievement of OMG Baukunst BDA in the refurbishment of the Wiesenrain Nursery in Frankfurt is all the more commendable. To improve energy efficiency and prevent overheating in summer, the building envelope of the nursery – specifically, the roof and facade of the two-storey existing building – was refurbished in just two and a half months. This was made possible by prefabricated timber modules that could be installed without any difficulty whilst the centre remained open. In terms of scale, the project is therefore of great significance and rightly plays a pioneering role within Germany with regard to serial refurbishment.
